During seven magical hours – from sunset to sunrise – we swim in the soft summer night light that never truly leaves the sky. Whether you’re in the mood for a long-distance swim or just a short dip, the night is yours. Maybe you swim for freedom, for stillness, for adventure or simply to feel time disappear when the light never fades. When we reach the shore at dawn, the warmth of the sauna awaits us. We gather there, quiet, warm, and perhaps a little tired, as the day slowly awakens and we enjoy a good breakfast together.

SAFETY
Note: This is an unassisted swim. You are fully responsible for your equipment and your own safety during the swim. There are no safety boats, kayaks, or organized support.

There is no marked course with swim buoys, no requirements, no audience – just open water and the summer night. We care deeply about your safety and strongly recommend swimming together with someone or in a group.

We will suggest route options where you are always close to shore, in case anything happens. We will share our experience on how to swim safely in the lake, but you are ultimately responsible for your own swim. A joint safety briefing will be held before the start. Swim through the night and meet the dawn with your body as your compass.

A safety buoy / Safe Swimmer float is mandatory – you can borrow one if you don’t have your own.

FOOD / DRINK
There will be three self-service stations with water, sports drink, energy gels and bars. Anything else you need for the swim, food, drink, energy you’ll carry yourself in your safety buoy.

PARKING
There’s parking available 200m from the start.

TOILET
There is a toilet at Osudden beach.

SHOWER
There’s no shower, but feel free to swim in the lake.

SAUNA
After finishing, we light the tent sauna so we can warm up and watch the sun rise in the sky.

A POSSIBLE STRUCTURE – WITH SPACE FOR BREAKS AND REST
We’ve designed a layout that offers both structure and flexibility. The total distance is about 15.2 km, divided into four stretches. Along the way, you’ll pass two depots where you can come ashore, refuel, or simply take a quiet moment. You choose how you want to approach it.

Here’s a possible breakdown:

• Start at Osudden → Funtabo: approx. 3.7 km
• Funtabo → Turning point in Tånnö: approx. 3.9 km
• Tånnö → Funtabo (returning north): approx. 3.9 km
• Funtabo → Finish at Osudden: approx. 3.7 km

Depots are located at:

• Funtabo (you pass it twice)
• Tånnö (turning point)

So you have the option to come ashore three times: after approx. 3.7 km, 7.6 km, and 11.5 km. Want to swim the whole route non-stop? No problem. Want to take a break and stretch your legs? There’s room for that too. And if you’re eager to swim even farther, we’ll help you create a plan that fits your goals.

WATER TEMPERATURE
17-20°C – wetsuit recommended.Please inform the organizer if you do not intend to use a wetsuit.

CONDITIONS
This is an outdoor event where weather and wind are part of the experience.We won’t cancel due to rain – we adapt to conditions as needed. From the official Vidöstern Swim website:

“Vidöstern can be a truly tough lake to swim in. Winds of 4-7 m/s are common and fog may occur. Participation is entirely at your own risk. Your ability to be well-prepared, enduring, and navigate on your own will be put to the test.”

CANCELLATIONS AND NO-SHOWS
If you’re unable to attend due to illness or injury, you may receive a refund – provided you submit a valid certificate and notify us no later than 48 hours before the event starts. Notification must be sent in writing via email to the organizer.

• If you cancel less than two weeks before the event’s first day, you’ll be charged 50% of the booking.
• If you cancel less than one week before, you’ll be charged 100%.
